Before you send

A useful change order explains the decision without relying on the field conversation.

As a practical reference, standard construction documentation commonly separates the change in the work, the price adjustment and the effect on contract time. Your contract may also require a specific form, signers or approval process.

Signing workflow

Exact PDF → approver → completed record.

  1. Finalize the change.Review scope, price, timing and attachments before requesting signatures.
  2. Add the actual approver.Use multiple signers and signing order if approvals must happen sequentially.
  3. Send and confirm receipt. The recipient opens a browser link without creating an account.
  4. Keep the completed version.File it with the original agreement, attachments and job records.
Pay as you goThe request reserves 1 credit; it is consumed only if completed.

If it is cancelled, declined or expires without completion, the reservation is released. That can fit change orders that are proposed but ultimately not approved.

Which tool do you need?

Signing a PDF and managing the entire change are different problems.

PocketESign does not try to replace software that creates line items, recalculates budgets, syncs job costing or invoices changes. It is built for the approval step once the document exists.

PocketESign fits best
  • You already have a change-order PDF.
  • You need remote signing and simple tracking.
  • Volume is uneven and you do not want another monthly fee.
  • You want to reuse your own forms and templates.
A change-order app may fit better
  • You need to create and price changes from the job site.
  • You want changes to update budget, margin or invoices.
  • You manage many change orders per project and team.
  • You need photos, line items, job costing or integrated project management.
If the work was not already approved

You may need a work authorization, not a change order.

A change order normally modifies an existing agreement. If the customer is first authorizing diagnostics, access, a repair or another defined task, a work authorization may describe the decision better.

FAQ

Common questions about electronic change orders.

Does the customer need an account?

No. The recipient opens the signing link in a browser.

Can multiple people sign?

Yes. You can add multiple signers and, where appropriate, define signing order.

Does e-signature make every change valid?

Not by itself. The contract, signer authority and applicable legal requirements still matter. E-signature is the approval channel, not a substitute for those requirements.

What if the customer declines or never finishes?

An uncompleted request does not consume the reserved credit if it is cancelled, declined or expires.
